Majority of Sri Lankans are Buddhists who live in coexistence with number of multi ethnic and multi racial communities. Buddhist Temples, Hindu Kovils, Muslim Mosques and Christian Churches of all denominations exit around the Island.
LANGUAGE
The official languages of Sri Lanka are Sinhala and Tamil. However, knowledge of English is widespread in Sri Lanka. This holds true in the urban areas. Often everyone, even in the most rural parts, knows a smattering of English. one would find it quite easy to communicate with Sri Lanka's friendly people.
CLIMATE
Sri Lanka is tropical country with a Southwest monsoon that in from June to October. During the rest of the year from October to March the Northeast of the island is affected by monsoon showers. The weather is finest in the coastal regions and hill country of the Southwest from
October to May. The temperatures fall rapidly with altitude. In Kandy
the temperature on average is around 20 degrees Celsius.
Tourist Season
Tourist Season is considered to be from November – April and off season is may- October. During the season, the rates of the accommodation in Sri lanka is comparatively higher than the off season, also you need to reserve, well in advance. During off season hotel rates are cheaper and within a short notice you can reserve. |
